Success

23 Oct

Just read a nice blog post by JParadisirn about the path to success.  Things have been a little crazy lately in nursing school, work, and at home.  I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed lately in all aspects of life, and its been a difficult journey the past few weeks.  I think I’m getting my act together, and I should (hopefully) be getting out of this funk soon.  This blog post – The Meaning of Success is in the Squiggles – is a reminder that success…and life…does not always follow a straight line.

This is it.  The last day before nursing school begins.  Everything I’ve done for the last year or so has lead up to this moment.  Overly dramatic?  Possibly, but this really is one of those rare, identifiable moments in life.  Today, I’m just a guy waiting for something good to start.  Tomorrow, I’m officially on my journey to becoming a registered nurse.  So much of life is made up of the little moments that change us slowly, and without much notice.  This is one of the big moments.  A point in time I’ll look back upon and recall for the rest of my life.

Teachable Moment #1

16 Aug

A student’s opportunities for learning are certainly not limited to the classroom, nor should they be.  There are plenty of opportunities to learn valuable lessons “in the real world” that can be applied to a nursing career.  Sometimes the lesson teaches you how to do something, but many times the lesson is how not to do something.

I learned a wonderful lesson this past week while helping my wife with a data entry project at the school where she works.  I’m sure lessons like this will present themselves many times over the next few years, so what better place than a blog to share what I’ve learned.  Hopefully these teachable moments will spur some good discussion and lively debate.  Anyway, back to the lesson.
